A part of the Maldives, traveling to Meeru Island sounds fun! But when it comes to packing your suitcase with just the right number of clothes and accessories in an organized way, the very idea sets you reeling.
But fret no more, travelers! Here’s your guide to preparing yourself for a stress-free tour.
1. Settle on a suitcase of your preference
First things first, deciding what all you need to carry and how you’re going to arrange them depends on the size of your suitcase. A big-sized one would mean that you can put in a lot of items, but whether you should take a large suitcase or just carry a small or medium-sized one depends, in turn, on your preferences and on how long your vacation’s going to be.
Most travelers prefer to travel with a lightweight suitcase, and that gives you additional benefits in terms of hand luggage allowance. Plus, if you’re going on a holiday and not a business trip, traveling light helps keep some of the weight off your shoulders.
Buying a lightweight hard-shell model would be a better choice if you’re more concerned with keeping your items inside safe and secure.
Use labels, stickers or luggage tags so that it’s easier for you to identify your luggage at the airport, otherwise you might be left wondering which of the two identical suitcases at the airport baggage counter belongs to you. A duffel bag would be useful for keeping your most-needed items like toiletries within your reach.
2. Choose your beach clothes and flip-flops
Pick what clothes and accessories you’ll be needing for this trip. Thinking of what to take and what to leave out might make you lose track of where you’re headed to. Don’t forget, you’re going to a beach, so choose your clothes accordingly.
Of course, how many clothes you take depends on how long you plan to stay there. For example, 5-7 sets of undergarments would be enough for a 2-week vacation.
Make sure you take your flip-flops along, and don’t forget your sunglasses, sunscreen, toothbrush, toothpaste, a sun hat, towels, bathing suits, and hairbrush!

3. Medicines? Check. Passport? Check.
One of the things travelers forget to pack is a medical kit, and hey, you never know what might happen! It’s safer to take precautions, so be sure to put medications inside your suitcase. And finally, the most important thing_ your travel documents!

5. Save space when packing for this trip
If you want to fit each and everything into your suitcase, you need to ensure there’s enough space. But how d’you do that? It’s simple! Fill every nook and cranny of your travel bags with your items.
Folding your clothes, however neat it might look, would only take up more space than needed. Instead, you can roll your undergarments and other small items with your clothes to make more room for other things you want to take.
Rolling your outfits also helps prevent them from getting wrinkled or creased, so you don’t need to iron them once you arrive at your resort. You can add silk crepe shirts to your travel wardrobe as these have less chance of creasing than other garments.
If you’re planning to stay at Meeru Island for a long holiday, you need to make sure your outfits stay fresh and clean. Placing a few naphthalene balls amidst your clothes inside your bags will keep them fresh. Use a fabric conditioner or softener so that your garments give off a sweet-smelling scent all through your trip.
6. Dry bags to preserve your things
When you’re out for a swim or taking a boat ride on the blue-green waters of Meeru Island, consider taking a waterproof bag with you. Putting your clothes and valuables inside a simple beach bag might get them wet with all that salty seawater spray.
But if you keep these items inside a dry bag instead of packing them in a beach bag, these can be safe, dry and undamaged when it rains and even underwater if you want to go for scuba diving.
7. Don’t forget to take an underwater camera!
Diving into the beautiful underwater world of Meeru Island, you’ll find yourself wishing you had brought a camera so that you could take selfies with the amazing corals and the fishes flitting about. The water‘s clear enough for you to take pictures of yourself and your buddies or your family swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving. So go ahead, buy an underwater camera! It’s protected from the sand as well as the sea, so you don’t need worry about its getting damaged due to either of these.
GoPro, Nikon, and Panasonic are some of the best waterproof cameras available in the market. A waterproof camera is definitely worth the money when it comes to taking photos of the Maldives, and trust me, you won’t regret it!
In case you don’t have any plans to swim or go for any of the water activities, you can buy a weather-sealed camera rather than an underwater one. A weather-sealed or weather-resistant camera works perfectly even when it’s exposed to moisture like rainwater, but the downside is that it can’t be used underwater. So while taking a stroll along the beach, it’s better to have a weather-resistant camera with you than a regular one.
Note: It’s best to wrap your camera with some protective padding and then put it inside a sealed or zipped plastic bag so that it can’t be harmed in case there’s a leak in your moisturizer bottle or shaving cream pack. Carry your camera inside your duffel bag, not your suitcase.
